Dewayne Garriss Appointed to State Fire Marshal

Atlanta – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens announced that Dwayne Garriss
has been appointed to serve as State Fire Marshal for the State of Georgia.
Dwayne Garriss, 49, graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1985 with a Bachelor’s of
Architecture degree and currently serves as a Director on the International Code Council Board, in
addition to being the Commissioner’s Designee on the State Codes Advisory Committee of
Department of Community Affairs. Dwayne has also served as Chair of the Georgia Fire Safety
Symposium for the past 18 years, while concurrently serving on the International Fire Code
Council for the past 10 years. In the past, he has also served on the National Fire Marshal’s Model
Codes Committee.
“I am today announcing that Dwayne Garriss, who has served as Assistant State Fire Marshal for
over 17 years, and Acting State Fire Marshal for the past six months, will assume the role of State
Fire Marshal,” Hudgens said. “Dwayne is a 22 year veteran of the State Fire Marshal’s Office and is
well known and respected by the fire service community and the many stakeholders this office
serves. Please join me in congratulating and supporting Dwayne on his new position and role for
our organization.”
